Violin • Viola • Cello • Bass
The Beginning String Ensemble is a small-group class designed for students who want to explore string instruments, build foundational skills, and experience playing music with others. The goal is to create a balanced beginner ensemble with at least 4 violins, 2 violas, 2 cellos, and 1 bass.
This is a great opportunity for students to develop a strong understanding of string instruments without needing to make a long-term commitment right away. Students can try different instruments, learn how each instrument fits into the ensemble, and begin building confidence as young musicians.
The ensemble will focus on the fundamentals of string playing, including posture, bow hold, tone production, rhythm, note reading, listening skills, and playing together as a group. We will work primarily from Essential Elements Books 1 and 2, with the possibility of moving into Book 3 depending on the level and progress of the group.
This class is especially helpful for beginning players who want a strong head start before joining 5th or 6th grade strings. Students will gain experience reading music, following a conductor, listening across the ensemble, and developing the discipline and teamwork needed to succeed in a school orchestra setting.
Session meets Saturdays 11AM-12PM
